ANIKYA IZNIK TILE IN JAPAN
NEW CONCEPT IN HOSPITAL DECORATION: “IZNIK TILE”
Anikya Iznik Tile adorns the Kurosawa Hospital in Takasaki, which is within the constitution of the leading hospital chain Bishinkai Medical Corporation.
The founder of the Kurosawa Hospital I Sao Kurosawa and his wife Yumiko Kurosawa chose Iznik tiles as the prevailing concept of their new hospital. The hospital, which is connected to the Bishin group, includes eight health complexness with an emphasis on elderly care. The Kurosawa couple's choice of Iznik tiles lies mainly on their visit to Turkey, in which they were mesmerised by the traditional art.
Once the interior designers of the Kurosawa Hospital adopted Iznik Tiles, the classical tile recieved a contemporary apporach, and moved to every department of the hospital. From main entrance to the lobby, from welcoming counters to direction boards, from the cafe to the resting niches, Anikya Iznik Tiles were used as a part of the overall decoration. Colors were specifically chosen for every single floor, which turned the hosptial environement into an artistic atmosphere.
The designs consisted of date palms, olive trees, galleons, naturalistic flowers, which were adopted by the panels in the Louvre Museum. Adhering to the 16th century production methods, the final product creates a serene atmosphere for the Japanese patients. Since the tiles are 80 % Quartz, they have the function of withdrawing negative electricity, which allows the Kurosawa patients to heal in an environemnt filled with positive energy. The hospital is built by the firm Taisei, that worked in the construction of the Marmaray Metro station in Istanbul. The hospital is desgined as a luxury hotel. There are operating rooms, dialysis centers, rehabilitation centers and diognosis centers; the hospital includes 350 beds.
While it is not common to use Iznik tiles in hospital decoration, the fact that this frist step was taken in Japan instead of Turkey is quite intriguing. This is Anikya's second hosptial project after the panel of the VIP Check up Counter in Acıbadem Maslak Hospital. At the opening of the hosptial, an Iznil tiled panel was given to the owner of the hospital I Sao Kurosawa to represent the artistic and cultural connection between Japan and Turkey. Almost a thousand Japanese guests attended the ceremony, and our gift to I Sao Kurosawa was admired by them as well.

The mosque of Hz. Ali opened by Erdoğan Bayraktar, the Minister of Environment and Town Planning on August 3, 2012 was opened to worship in Kısıklı – Burhaniye district where the house of Prime Minister Tayyip Erdoğan is located. The most remarkable tiles of the minaret, tympanums, mihrab and band printings of the mosque where Prime Minister performed the noon salaat the next day right after the opening were produced by Anikya İznik Çini. As for the design of tiles, they were made by Nejla Anıl who contemporarily interpreted İznik tiles being faithful to traditional patterns. Due to the fact that the decorator of the mosque, Mehmet Kılıç chose an unsophisticated method, the source of tile patterns became Yavuz Selim Mosque which is located in Fatih-Haliç district. The mosque is one of the earliest examples of classical Ottoman architecture. The architect of Sultan Selim Mosque built by Kanunî Sultan Süleyman was Acem Ali. An unsophisticated architecture draws attention in the works of Acem Ali who was the chief architect of the palace before Mimar Sinan in the periods of Beyazıd II, Selim I and Kanuni.
A different method in which watermark and stained patterns were generated through referring to the patterns and colours of tiles the originals of which are made with coloured glaze method is presented with under glaze technique in tile designs made for the Mosque of Hz. Ali.
